SIOUX CITY — Just in time for the year’s busiest shopping day, Dakota PC Warehouse is opening its first outlet in Sioux City on Friday.
The locally owned retailer of new and remanufactured computing and consumer electronics products has moved into the former Hollywood Video store in the Hy-Vee parking lot at 3505 Gordon Drive.
Dakota PC Warehouse, founded in 2004 by former Gateway executives Keith Thomas and Bob Burnett, also has locations in North Sioux City and Vermillion, S.D.
Burnett said the owners searched for years for a Sioux City location that was more convenient not only for the Morningside and Singing Hills neighborhoods, but also residents of surrounding cities such as Hinton, Lawton and Le Mars.
The closing of the Hollywood Video store this summer, following the bankruptcy filing of the video rental chain’s parent company, opened up such a spot. Burnett said Dakota PC Warehouse, which finalized a multi-year lease for the space last week, hustled to get the store ready for the Christmas season. Today’s opening coincides with Black Friday, the traditional kickoff of the holiday gift buying season.
The new store offers floor space to display a larger variety of items, as well as two customer counters – one for checkouts and the other for service and repair of computers and electronics.
The expansion will create the full-time equivalency of about eight new jobs, bringing the company’s total workforce to around 40.
The retailer’s parent company, Value Recovery Services, is recruiting for part-time and full-time sales representatives and technicians for both the new store and its 100,000-square-foot operations center in South Sioux City.
Dakota PC Warehouse, which is an authorized Vizio service center, repairs TVs at the South Sioux location.
Debi Durham, president of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, mentioned that Value Recovery is one of the few locally owned companies to have operations in Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.
“I am pleased to see a company with a presence in all three of our Siouxland states growing in spite of a challenging retail climate,” Durham said.
